Let's forget about Arduino, Android SDK and glossy touch screen for a while ! I'm pretty sure this box will drive A LOT of things in the internet of things! The first thing I will hook-up will be my beloved Roland DYX-1300 pen plotter

The Pi is powered by a 700MHz ARM-compatible processor with hardware support for OpenGL ES 2.0 and Blu-ray-grade playback (1080p30 H.264), and features 256MB of RAM, TV, HDMI and audio outputs, a USB port, a Flash memory card slot, 100MBit Ethernet and a number of I/O pins for a serial port and general purpose hacking. This is all fitted on a low-cost 85.60mm x 53.98mm board that's about 20mm high, weighs 40g and is powered from a 5V supply.

the MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) protocol is old but still widely used, due to the fact that vintage electronic from the 80's-90's has a lot of interesting possibilities regarding its sound quality.

But sadly it has no internet connection.

Last year I created a prototype during a hackathon in order to connect any musical instrument with MIDI to the internet.

Any MIDI musical instrument can be an internet device.

I called It the Internet Midi converter, It's a simple device: Internet comes in, music goes out.
You can control it through a website where you can decide what you want to do with it (Twitter search, echonest search, midi file play, record, etc...).

Today Google released the Android Open Accessory Development Kit. And one of the demos from Yoshinari Yoshikawa (miselu) is really interesting because the concept is really close to the Internet Midi converter, with almost the same technology (the beloved Arduino + Android).

Internet comes in, music goes out. Connect an Ethernet cable to one side of this gadget (via the Arduino Ethernet Shield), connect the other to a MIDI instrument, and Bertrand Gondouin’s creation plays MIDI music automatically.

Of course, this has other creative implications, like the ability to pipe your own music or musical events to installations, remote players, to rig up an Ethernet- (or wifi-) powered MIDI band, or whatever you might imagine.

The Internet Midi Converter is a small box you plug into your music instrument (with midi protocol), and on the internet.

I have created 2 versions of the Internet MIDI Converter:

The Echonest Midi Player

In real time it plays tracks analysed from the Echonest.

A web interface allows you to choose tracks or artists you want to play the music.

The Twitter best ever Midi Player

In real time it creates a MIDI stream according to the content of the twitter messages.

A web interface allows you to choose hashtags, users or replies to personalize your Twitter best ever MIDI player experience.

You can even compose music on Twitter with it (limited to 30 notes; it's a micro blogging service).

The main goal of Music Hack Day is to explore and build the next generation of music applications. It's a full weekend of hacking in which participants will conceptualize, create and present their projects. Music + software + hardware + art + the web. Anything goes as long as it's music related.

It is with excitement that I announce a VJ set in Seoul / South Korea @ Volume, on Nov 13th, 2009!

According to DJmag:

Club Volume, in Seoul's Itaewon district, is the first Korean venue to place visuals at the forefront of the clubbing experience. Stretching out for 200 feet behind the DJ console, a towering LED screen beams out visuals from the nation's top visual artists, whilst a 10-watt Sollinger laser sears the room like digital lightning.

Well That will be a fun to create live visuals on the 4 LED screens !

I will use my latest gadget, real time 3D effect on videos coming from mobiles phones thanks to the Movino software and some usuals hacks.

We discussed this with Arvid Engström, back in june 2007 and I didn't thought it would be be possible anytime soon... but things go fast with those mobile phones-cameras !

The use of the body augmented by sensors and tied into generative music and sound design technology is actually quite intriguing. Although results can be varied, the idea of turning the 'poetry of motion' into electronica and soundscapes is a powerful framework for self-expression. I like the fact that they utilize MAX/MSP and pD (Pure Data) - which really are the basic building blocks for this style of bio-generative art. The resulting musical performances are available on iTunes. I applaud this kind of effort to meld traditional art forms with the latest technologies. Art has to remove our artificially imposed barriers of perception and cognition.

The club was born at Esque in 2007 and invited some of their favorite DJs to play :Nic Fancuilli, Tom Middleton, Francios Dubios/Funk D´void, Paolo Mojo, Luke Fair och Manuel Tur. Last summer they played at F12 Terrace and created come magical summer evenings. This winter we welcome them to Nordic Light Hotel.

Welcome to the Interactive Institute's 10 year anniversary!

Time passes quickly while having fun. We are already 10 years old, and on Wednesday December 3rd we will celebrate with a seminar and a big party. Come join us!

The seminar will be held 13.00-15.30 at IVA, Grev Turegatan 16, Wallenbergssalen. There will also be drinks and snacks.

At 20:00 we open the gates to a spectacular party. There will be audio-visual entertainment in an escalating tempo, there will be cake, there will be drinks, it will be fun. Bring your dancing shoes and expect to get home late. The party will be held at Enskilda Galleriet, below the famous Allmänna Galleriet 925, Fridhemsplan (Kronobergsgatan 37).

A nice article from Kristian Ribberström who writes for The Medici Effect Blog about my electronic Jacket.

At this intersection he seems to have a lot of fun and apparently barriers don’t exist to this visionary thinker. Considering what he has achieved it is amazing that he has no background in technology but he certainly brings new perspectives into this field since he is educated in art and has been working with live television. Check this crazy video from his first experiments with the jacket where he controls sound with arm movements.
