Han styr datorn och musiken med kavajen

Kavajen är den nya musen. Fransmannen Bertrand Gondouin vill styra musik och modeshower med kläderna.

Genom att svänga med armarna navigerar han igenom en 3 D-miljö som projektorn målar upp på en vit duk framför honom. Där-efter byter han till ett mixerbord och börjar kontrollera en synt med samma armrörelser, till åskådarnas förtjusning.

Exakt hur kavajen fungerar vill Bertrand Gondouin inte avslöja men elektronisk textil ligger bakom.
– Den är helt tvättbar, så länge du kommer ihåg att ta ur batterierna, säger han.

Kavajen, som han själv har modifierat med tekniken, är bara en första prototyp. Han ser framför sig hur musiker och catwalk-modeller kan ha plaggen i framtiden.
– Jag tycker inte att mus och skärm duger längre, jag vill uppfinna nya gränssnitt och för mig finns det ett experimentellt och konstnärligt syfte bakom, säger han.

Bertrand Gondouin kommer från Normandie och har gått konstskola i Frankrike. Han har ingen teknisk bakgrund men har jobbat mycket med live-tv i hemlandet. Det tröttnade han dock snart på när experimentlustan tog över.
– Jag ville göra något mer kreativt och interaktivt.
Eftersom han har flera kompisar som arbetar som dj:s har han demonstrerat för dem hur hans kavaj kan användas för att kontrollera musiken. Med kavajens hjälp blir det möjligt att ”scratcha” utan att fysiskt vidröra skivorna.

•• Är nästa steg en overall?
– Nej, det ska vara väldigt enkelt, tvättbart och billigt. Inte ett stort militärt ställ du måste ta på dig, utan ett system du kan ta med dig lätt, svarar Bertrand Gondouin och fortsätter att vifta för att imponera på några som nyfiket ser på.

Post Me_New ID

An action research project with a focus on the future of the body

network, create and share
Post Me_New ID examines the complexity of 21st century European identity through an exploration based on the effect of digital technologies of the body and identity. An active and public Blog is fed by a series of debate led Research Engines with a Forum, Book and DVD as the end products. In addition a series of Creation Processes will result in a public Installation / Performance.

Post Me_New ID is a co-production between body>data>space (London, UK), CIANT | International Centre for Art and New Technologies (Prague, Czech Republic), TMA | Trans-Media-Academy Hellerau (Dresden, Germany) and Kibla (Maribor, Slovenia) supported by the European Union within the Culture 2007 Programme.

Post Me_New ID practically explores the physical and digital social networking of creation processes for interdisciplinary artistic projects and envisions the artistic outputs of generations to come.

This project is a driver for a learning exchange and knowledge transfer in a diverse group of skilled experts. It brings together artists, curators, academics, psychologists, creative technologists and new media producers working in a value chain of shared expertise - from process to product and to the public.

What is the current and future condition of the post-human body?
What is the relationship between identities and digital culture?
How will digital and physical mobility affect and interact with future gender ideologies and multi-cultural scenarios?
How will the creative participation of audience as players (not just spectators) affect and change artistic processes, the tools in use and the culture created?

We are researching and exploring the following key themes:

Telematics / Generative / Real Time
Next ID / Multi Selves / Avatars
Monsters /Heroes - human / non-human / the “other”
Engendered bodies - shifts in gender psychologies

The idea of fringe is to provide a meeting point for participants of the local new media art scene in Stockholm.

Fringe events always contain a number of presentations - by the fringe people, to the fringe people. Sometimes these are just regular presentations, but sometimes installations, performances, happenings, dance, screenings or other formats. There's always something to drink and usually something to eat. Additionally, fringe organizes workshops and other events.

For more than four years fringe has brought together people, many of them from the Interactive Institute Play Studio and the Art and Technology department at Chalmers in Gothenburg. Many of their members have now moved to Stockholm and decided to bring the fringe with them and connect it to the already existing local media scene.

The Stockholm Fringe is supported by the Interactive Institute and will also attempt to function as a platform to distribute knowledge in the form of workshops and the like.

Grains & Pixels is invited to play at the reboot 9.0 Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark! It will part of the Grains & Pixels massive European tour, with a following show in London at the Roxy bar and screen the 2th of june.

About reboot:

Calling all practical visionaries of the world!

It's time to reboot our minds once again; reboot9 will take place in Copenhagen Thursday, May 31st and Friday, June 1st 2007.
Two days away from implementing, away from the status quo. Two days together with old and new friends in an informal and open festival spirit...

THE CHALLENGE
The theme for reboot9 is "human?". A big word, but a word that saturates what's happening and all ready on a deeper level has been transcending reboot the last couple of years.
We're connecting to each others as human beings once again. We're building tools to empower humans - not institutions. We're creating new iconic collaborative human manifestations. We're finding ourselves as humans and our human voices. We're humanizing our organizations and our socities. We're reestablishing links to nature we'd long forgotten. We're looking at the world together as humans - not as consumers or workers.

So when all is in going away from mechanical industrial models to human natural models where this is leading us?. What is our shared understanding of "human?". How do we organize ourselves in human institutions and organizations?. How are our tools shaping us as humans, how are we shaping our tools. Is it leading us to chaos without organization and government or nirvana?. What do we as humans want to happen, what can we imagine?

reboot9 is about looking both backwards and forwards. Backwards because history has a tendency to repeat itself but also for staying power of the discussions that we had at reboot8, reboot7 and earlier even. Forwards in order to predict by implementing and to obsolete the pretensions we forget to dismiss.

Grains & Pixels and VJ Bertranol awarded by the Prix Möbius Nordica Experimental, Pixelache Highlights 2007

Prix Möbius Nordica competition and Pixelache together decided to give special awards to some of the most interesting projects in the Nordic VJ Meeting.
The jury members were Eva Bischof-Herlbauer & Gery Herlbauer (Austria) from 4youreye / Eye|Con, Gabor Kitzinger aka VJ Rio Rokoko (Hungary) and Nordic VJ Meeting programme director Petri Ruikka.

Because of the energy of their VJ performance and their skill in interpreting the music into images and visual rhythms. Their work takes into account the essential elements of VJing: the space, the audience, the other performers and the music.

- VJ Bertranol / Grains & Pixels performance
Creating a new platform for and at the same time looking into the future possibilities of integrated audiovisual performance. Creative approach in integrating real-time footage into live performance on digital platform.

- Bottega Arete + VJ Samesame + Casper Obro
Creative collaboration by using several VJ outputs together in an interesting way in live performance. Fresh and unexpected footage and the skill in taking into account the relation between the footage and display set-up.
