Post Me_New ID

An action research project with a focus on the future of the body

network, create and share
Post Me_New ID examines the complexity of 21st century European identity through an exploration based on the effect of digital technologies of the body and identity. An active and public Blog is fed by a series of debate led Research Engines with a Forum, Book and DVD as the end products. In addition a series of Creation Processes will result in a public Installation / Performance.

Post Me_New ID is a co-production between body>data>space (London, UK), CIANT | International Centre for Art and New Technologies (Prague, Czech Republic), TMA | Trans-Media-Academy Hellerau (Dresden, Germany) and Kibla (Maribor, Slovenia) supported by the European Union within the Culture 2007 Programme.

Post Me_New ID practically explores the physical and digital social networking of creation processes for interdisciplinary artistic projects and envisions the artistic outputs of generations to come.

This project is a driver for a learning exchange and knowledge transfer in a diverse group of skilled experts. It brings together artists, curators, academics, psychologists, creative technologists and new media producers working in a value chain of shared expertise - from process to product and to the public.

What is the current and future condition of the post-human body?
What is the relationship between identities and digital culture?
How will digital and physical mobility affect and interact with future gender ideologies and multi-cultural scenarios?
How will the creative participation of audience as players (not just spectators) affect and change artistic processes, the tools in use and the culture created?

We are researching and exploring the following key themes:

Interdisciplinary Studies Course, Konstfack, Stockholm

I'm guest lecturer at Konstfack for an Interdisciplinary Studies Course organized by Nadia El-Imam (more info below). I will present a short history of live visuals production tools and software + projects I'm involved in. Students will be invited to mis/use my "Sramble" software using their own digital materials. Scramble will be used in an semi-immersive environment / fake Second Life using the Wii remote control as the main control interface.

Course Background:

As we spend more and more of our time socialising and conducting the business of our everyday lives Online, we see the rise of economies of the virtual; over the past eight years alone, Real-money trade of virtual property ('RMT') has burgeoned into a 2 Bn USD market. With the emerging visibility of new relationships and communities we see the emergence of new forms of ownership related to the accumulation of meta-data; these can be seen as attempts to obtain outwardly extending, all- encompassing ownership of information as opposed ownership of content, or enclosures of information. In order to identify and meet the challenges these developments pose to our lives in general and work in particular, we need to understand human experience in these environments. Exploring relationships between embodiment and enclosure as related to ownership is a central concern, obliging us to revisit what we know about how and what it is that distinguishes between how we function in bodied and disembodied contexts.

Course Description:

We are de-constructing idea of ownership as related to embodiment and the boundaries of integrity or ìthe state of being wholeî. This obliges us to revisit what we know about how and what it is that distinguishes between how we function in bodied and disembodied environments. With its central concern with the implications of ìpost humanî experience and embodiment, the course finds its natural home and setting in Second Life (SL), the Linden Labs online platform, and students are expected to participate in related seminars and lectures. Students are also expected to make presentations that explore and relate the different aspects of implementation using the Second Life platform with ones they make in a designated physical space.

I'm part of the Pixelache Nordic VJ meeting during the Pixelache 2007 Festival!

The Nordic/Baltic VJ scene is gathering in Helsinki and showing their skills in club events (organised in collaboration with Basso and ALAS), audiovisual jamming sessions as well as covert guerrilla actions around the city. The invited 30+ VJ acts are coming from all corners of the Nordic/Baltic region: Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

VisibleSound/AudibleImage is a workshop and performance series by Derek Holzer and Sara Kolster which focuses on the interrelation of sound and image.

The workshop component is a four day overview of Pure Data, GEM and PDP, a collection of Free + Open Source Softwares available for Linux and Mac OSX 10.3 which allow image, sound and data to be synthesized and manipulated in the same environment. Participants will learn the basic "grammar" and "vocabulary" of Pure Data, upon which objects for sound, 3D and video will be added. Emphasis will be placed on direct connections between sound and image through three different methods: influence of sound on image, influence of image on sound and the use of common "control data" for both image and sound.
